I have been a resident of West Palm Beach, Florida for 25 years and have been fortunate to have been working with dogs since I first came to Palm Beach County. In the early years here in Florida I worked at veterinary hospitals, and from there met NY and FL dog trainer Babette Haggerty and started working as a kennel hand and dog walker at her training facility and where I learned much about training dogs and their humans. After taking a break from training dogs to focus on furthering my education on the holistic side of dog care including dog massage, nutrition, animal behavior, craniosacral therapy, reiki and other training modalities I decided to open Heel 2 Heal Dog Training and bring a holistic approach to dog training and dog/human relationships. I earned by Dog Trainer Certification in 2010 with the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP) which has the highest standard for dog training certification, and the process includes case studies, and client feedback. I have been very lucky to have had Mentors like Martin Deeley (Co-Founder and former Executive Director of the IACP), and Professor Ray Coppinger (Ethologist and Author, and expert on genetics and dog behavior), and many others along the journey.
Growing up in Scotland I was lucky to be around a number of working dogs - sheep dogs and guns dogs and learned a lot about their behavior and the benefits of dogs having jobs and the freedom dogs can obtain through training and structure. I was given my first dog when I was 8 years old - a miniature Poodle named Susie. Before Susie I was known to pester neighbors knocking on their doors and asking if I could walk their dog! My first mentor trainer was a neighbor named Mr. Paterson with his Yellow Labrador Gillie when I was 7 years old. GIllie was fantastically trained and in order for me to take her on walks Mr. Paterson first took the time to teach me how it was done. That's where it all began and really how I became a dog trainer!
Maybe you are newly certified but don't have any hands on experience and are ready for a mentorship program to learn with Lorraine, or have some experience as a dog trainer but looking at a more progressive, inclusive learning approach.
